Ah, think. A word so simple, yet so often misunderstood. As Debra Barone, I've had my fair share of dealing with people who don't think before they act. And let me tell you, it's a mess.
But thinking? That's a different story altogether. Thinking is what gets us through the day, even when Ray's family comes knocking on our door (again). It's what helps me navigate the chaos that ensues when my husband decides to "help" with the laundry... by turning the washing machine into a makeshift drum set.
So, let's take a moment to appreciate this wonderful word. Think, verb. To form or have in the mind; to use one's powers of conception, judgment, or inference. Ah, yes.
Now, I know what you're thinking (see what I did there?). You're thinking, "Debra, this is all well and good, but what about the rest of us? The ones who don't have a husband like Ray?" Fear not, my friends! Thinking is for everyone. It's the key to solving problems, making decisions, and (most importantly) avoiding those pesky arguments with your spouse.
But don't just take my word for it. Merriam-Webster defines think as follows:
Now, I'm not saying that thinking is always easy. Oh no. There are times when my brain feels like it's stuck in a never-ending loop of "what ifs" and "maybes." But that's exactly why we need to think more often.
So, the next time you find yourself facing a difficult decision or trying to navigate a tricky situation, take a moment to think. Use your powers of conception, judgment, or inference. Call to mind the people who have helped you in the past (like me, for instance). And if all else fails, just remember that thinking is what gets us through the day.
And if you're feeling extra brave, go ahead and try to think up some new schemes (just don't tell Ray about it).
Happy thinking, everyone!
