As a sports writer who's more comfortable on the sidelines than in the spotlight, I'm always fascinated by the behind-the-scenes drama that unfolds in the lives of my favorite TV characters. And none are more endearing – or infuriating – than the lovable but dysfunctional Barones from Everybody Loves Raymond.
While we're all too familiar with Ray, Debra, and their three kids, what about the rest of the gang? Who are these supporting characters that bring so much joy (and chaos) to our lives every week?
Marie, Raymond's mother-in-law, is a force to be reckoned with. Her sharp tongue, quick wit, and love of drama make her the ultimate mediator (or instigator) in any family conflict. And then there's Debra, Ray's wife, who often finds herself caught between her husband's antics and his mother's... well, everything.
Both women bring their own brand of sass to the show, but it's Marie who really knows how to push buttons (and not always in a good way). Still, we love them both for their loyalty, humor, and unapologetic honesty – even if they do drive us crazy sometimes.
Frank and Helen are the ultimate grumps. They're like the cranky old neighbors everyone loves to hate... until you get to know them. And then, despite their constant complaining and scheming, you find yourself rooting for them.
Frank's a bit of a ladies' man (in his dreams, anyway), while Helen's got a heart of gold – even if she doesn't always show it. They may be the most difficult relatives to deal with, but we love watching them get into all sorts of mischief and mayhem.
